Cornelius Ward Friend was born in Western Maryland in 1804. Cornelius was the son of John Friend Jr. (1764 to 1849) and Elizabeth Ward (1778 to 1845) as well as grandson of John Friend Sr. (1728 to aft 1808), founder of Friendsville, MD. Cornelius would travel to Ohio with his wife, but eventually come back and settle in the Friendsville area, where he and his descendants would have a profound influence upon the region. This book is the promised continuation of Patty (Friend) Thompson’s “John Friend Sr. of Friendsville, MD” and Patrick T. Smith’s “John Friend Jr. of Friend’s Delight, Sang Run, Maryland” The primary goal of this work is to preserve this history before it is lost to time.
