Joseph L. Friend (1799 - 1894), the son of John Lewis and Elizabeth (Ward) Friend
grandson of John Lewis "Old John" and Karenhappuch (Hyatt) Friend Sr.

Rachel (Browning) Friend (1802-1869) was the second daughter of Meshack Browning ("Forty Four years of Life of a Hunter" author) and Mary McMullen.

Joseph and Rachel were married at Bear Creek. Allegany County, MD in 1822. They had 10 children, namely, Freeman, Harriet, Asa, Salathiel, Matilda, Mahon, John, Hanson, Mary and Rebecca Jane(1846-1897). Rebecca Jane married John Hoye Chisholm (1845 - 1925) , brother to James pictured below, on 12/24/1868.

Mary E. Friend and James Chisholm

Mary E. Friend (1842 - 1914) is the daughter of Joseph L. and Rachael (Browning) Friend. James Chisholm (1828 - 1875) is the husband of Mary. They were married on 12/31/1867

Hanson Lincoln Friend

Son of Freeman Friend and grandson of Joseph Friend.
