James Alexander Friend was the son of George Washington & Mary (Brock) Friend. James is the 4th great grandson of Nils Larsson (Frande) Friend. He was born on the 4th of March 1847 and died 22nd of February 1912. He was a Carpenter and Farmer. James married to Miss Margaret Jane Smallridge on the 13th of July 1871 in West Virginia. Together they had 10 children. Margaret Jane (Smallridge) Friend was born abt 1857 in Upshur County, (now West) Virginia. She was the daughter of Jacob Jackson Samllridge.

Sampson Friend is the son of James Alexander & Margaret (Smallridge) Friend. He was born on the 29th of September 1872 and died on the 30th of January 1954. Sampson was a Stone Mason and he owned the "Outcrop Stone Quarry" on the south part of Smithfield, Pennsylvania. He is married to Miss Mary Evens who was born on the 23rd of February 1877 and died on the 10th of March 1961. Together they had seven children.

Iva Friend (1911 - 1912)

Dsughter of William Price Friend, the granddaughter of James Alexander Friend & Margaret Jane (Smallridge) Friend. Iva Friend was born on the 3rd of June 1911 and died on the 7th September 1912. She is buried next to her grandfather since he was deceased before she was. This must of been hard times for this Friend family having to lose some family members in such a short time.
