We are pleased to announce the next two books in our series on the Friend Family

Josiah Green Friend
of
Swanton, MD
 (Book I & II)

by
Patty (Friend) Thompson
Patrick T. Smith

Josiah Green Friend was the third son of Joseph Friend and Sarah Green Friend as well as a grandson of John Friend Sr. (1728 to aft.1808). Josiah Green Friend married Lavina Kemp, November 10, 1825, left his home in Friendsville, MD and travel to the Southern part of Allegany (Garrett) County, Maryland, settling in the Swanton area. These two books chronicle personal histories, birth, death and marriage dates as well as letters, photographs, lands deed, wills, military records and US Census records. Four of Josiah’s sons would serve in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Because of the massive amount of material, Josiah Green Friend’s family has been divided into two books.  Book I focuses on the oldest four children (Sarah A., Elizabeth, Mariah and Joseph Fletcher) while Book II focuses on the youngest four children (Andrew Grant, William Henry Harrison, Benjamin Franklin and John Bunyon ). This book is the promised continuation of Patty (Friend) Thompson’s “John Friend Sr. of Friendsville, MD”.  Each reference book is fully indexed and presented in an outline format. Additions or corrections are welcomed and the authors can be contacted through the Friend Family Association of America (FFAA) at Friendsville, MD or by e-mail through the FFAA web-site (www.friendfamilyassociation.org ).  The initial cost of printing the book has been donated to the FFAA.   Proceeds from the initial copies and reprints produced by the FFAA book will go to the FFAA (a non-profit organization).  All book sales are tax deductible. Each book in the initial offering will be signed by the author.

Black and white spiral bound copies of Book I (over 600 pages) can be purchased for $60 per book (plus $10 S&H). Book II (500 pages) can be purchased for $50 (plus $10 S&H) A CD version is available for $30 per book (plus $5 S&H).  The CD contains a color copy of the book in a PDF format (requiring Acrobat 7.0).  Earlier versions of Acrobat can open the text, but not all the images.
